Association Croquet at Hamptworth

Welcome to the Association Croquet page for the club, the hope is that this will form a live newsletter; the results, draws & dates of all competitions will be put here. Any news, gossip, or interesting snippets will get put here somewhere, so make a habit of looking in occasionally!

The club has an open afternoon every Wednesday, from 1pm during the winter months and from 2pm in summertime. This summer, from March , we will also have sessions on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30pm, Sunday mornings, 09:30 and Thursday afternoons from 2pm. Anyone is very welcome to come down and try the game. Mallets, balls & hoops provided FOC, coaching is available, just wear some flat shoes.

Social Dates for the Diary Sunday 11th May. Champagne Brunch. Kick off with a game of croquet at 9:30, have a Champagne Brunch at 11:00 and stay on for another game or another glass. Saturday 31st May. Annual Summer BBQ, food from 7pm, hopefully down beside the lawns.  Full details for either day from Diana Stevens. Maintainance Lawns were spiked and top dressed with a reseed on 2/4, they are now starting to grow and look very well and are playing that way too. Guests It has been decided that a green fee of £5 per lawn will be payable by guests with a maximum number of three visits p.a. Hopefully this will not discourage folks from trying the game or trying our lawns but will encourage them to join the club. Balls & Hoops Since we've bought a couple of sets of hoops the old ones are for sale at £20 per hoop, new they are £35 now, just gone up. They have been stripped down and repainted and are basically as good as new. To complete the practice in the garden set, how about some of the old Barlow C balls at £5 each. Club Matches Handicap League. 15th May  v. Littleton. David Williams & Mike Galindo here, Chris Crowcroft & Richard Godfrey away. All four games being played that evening.  16th July v Winchester  Richard & Dians Stevens at Winchester, the home leg on 17th July, R. Godfrey & David Williams playing. Nothing else booked yet, Reading, Ryde & Basingstoke to be played. We are drawn v. Harwell in the Longman Cup, to be played by 29th June. It's the national inter club handicap competition. Richard Smith is organiser. Advanced Level League. 12th June v High Wycombe. Richard Dickson & R. Stevens at High Wycombe 2nd July v Aldermaston. Richard Dickson & Brian Fisk at Hamptworth. 16th July v Blewbury. Richard Dickson & Chric Crowcroft at Blewbury.   Summer 2008 May 3,4 & 5th AC on 3rd & 4th GC 5th. Hi bisquers h'cap w/e Mike Oliver OIC. July 11-13th. The Six Lawns. Open Handicap. Holder David Williams Sept 20&21st Advanced Weekend restricted to Handicaps -1 to 3 Internal Competitions Handicap singles for the Ken Smith Trophy. Holder : Richard Dickson. Blocks are now up in the shed, please play the blocks by the end of August. Wiltshire County Croquet Almost all of the Wilts side are playing  Uruguay on May 20th as a warm up for the Counties which takes place at the following weekend. There are sixteen players for the day, playing 14pt doubles to very tight time limits, spectators are welcome and might even find it fun as well as of some interest, well, that's the idea at any rate. Play starts at 9:30 and will end around 5:30pm.
