Association Croquet at Hamptworth
Welcome to the Association Croquet page for the club, the hope is that this will form a live
newsletter;
the results, draws & dates of all competitions will be put here. Any news, gossip,
or interesting snippets
will get put here somewhere, so make a habit of looking in occasionally!
The club has an open afternoon every Wednesday, from 1pm during the winter months and
from 2pm
in summertime. This summer, from March , we will also have sessions on Tuesday
evenings, from
6:30pm, Sunday mornings, 09:30 and Thursday afternoons from 2pm. Anyone
is very welcome to come
down and try the game. Mallets, balls & hoops provided FOC, coaching
is available, just wear some
flat shoes.
Gossip/News
Plans for the new pavilion have been circulated, it's 4x5m and will be positioned in the centre of
what will become four lawns, overhanging the central bank.
The pavilion and the two new lawns will be built this summer, but it's unlikely that the lawns will be
playable until early 2010.
The club is able to take lawn bookings now, in the old fashioned way by simply writing the booking
in a diary, rather than using computers. The diary should be either on the reception desk or in the
pro shop.
Maintenance
The lawns are playing quick and fairly well. The new lawns have been sown and the mower run
over them for the first time, they look pretty good with only a few poor patches on one side of one
lawn. Still no sign of a new shed though. The groundsman hopes we can play on them in Spring 2010.
Guests It has been decided that a green fee of £5 per lawn will be payable by guests with a maximum
number of three visits p.a. Hopefully this will not discourage folks from trying the game or trying our
lawns but will encourage them to join the club.

Open Comps 2009
We are hosting these AC competitions next year. The 6 lawns runs from July 3rd to 5th. A handicap
w/e 20 & 21 June, Handicap 6-14. The B level comp is August 29-31st and in September, 19th & 20th
the AB level w/e. As well as these Mike Oliver is running a high bisquers w/e in early June.

RD running it. A Friendly. We have been invited to Wimbledon for a match in September, so far

Internal Competitions The Ken Smith Trophy
Richard Godfrey will no doubt be defending this trophy, entries will be assumed and blocks put up
towards late April/May.
Winter Weekends 08-09
James Tuttiett ran the show with huge success as usual, the winners were at times unpredictable
but as always very lucky. The weekends have become a great way to spend a couple of days as well
as pick up some new ideas, not always great ones, but always novel. Hopefully when we get the four
lawns up and going we can revert to a wider spread of handicaps, as we had when the weekends
started out.
Wiltshire County Croquet
Wiltshire came in sixth place in the Inter Counties second division, an excellent result given that this
was only their second appearance at the event. They included a win over Hampshire in their victories.
The team was drawn from Swindon , Kington Langley, Chippenham as well as Hamptworth members.
