Golf Course

Hole 1

Par 4

  • 375 Yards S.I. 13
  • 371 Yards S.I. 13
  • 303 Yards S.I. 11
  • 303 Yards S.I. 11

Pro Tip

A straightforward starting hole to get you warmed up.

A drive up the left hand side to take account of the left to right slope on the fairway, but avoiding the bunkers, should give you a view of the green on your second shot.

There is a ditch short of the green, but only the very longest hitters are likely to reach it off the tee.

Hole 2

Par 4

  • 383 Yards S.I. 5
  • 383 Yards S.I. 5
  • 377 Yards S.I. 7
  • 377 Yards S.I. 7

Pro Tip

A lovely hole that doglegs almost 90 degrees to the right.

Don’t be tempted to take on the corner; it's further away than it looks.

A tee shot aimed short of the right hand bunker will leave you with a modest iron shot over the river onto a green that slopes back to front.

Hole 3

Par 4

  • 348 Yards S.I. 14
  • 316 Yards S.I. 14
  • 310 Yards S.I. 13
  • 310 Yards S.I. 13

Pro Tip

A relatively short par 4 and a good chance to score well.

The large green has a pond on the left and also behind, so the safest shot to the green is the right hand side and short.

Hole 4

Par 3

  • 202 Yards S.I. 15
  • 194 Yards S.I. 15
  • 125 Yards S.I. 17
  • 125 Yards S.I. 17

Pro Tip

A tough par 3, take plenty of club and be prepared to chip and putt.

Hole 5

Par 4

  • 360 Yards S.I. 6
  • 354 Yards S.I. 6
  • 348 Yards S.I. 5
  • 348 Yards S.I. 5

Pro Tip

A nice hole but don’t be tempted to take too much club off the tee, as the fairway narrows.

A shot on the fairway level or just past the bunker gives the best approach to the lovely elevated and undulating green.

Hole 6

Par 4

  • 372 Yards S.I. 12
  • 362 Yards S.I. 12
  • 360 Yards S.I. 9
  • 360 Yards S.I. 9

Pro Tip

A chance for the big hitters to hit it high and long.

Favour the right hand side of the fairway to get the best view into the green and avoid having to go over the greenside bunker.

Hole 7

Par 5

  • 446 Yards S.I. 2
  • 440 Yards S.I. 2
  • 387 Yards S.I. 1
  • 387 Yards S.I. 1

Pro Tip

A short but tricky par 5 requiring guile rather than brute strength.

If you can position your tee shot far enough down the hill, but short of the water you may have a chance to reach the green in two.

Shorter hitters should play it as a three shotter positioning their ball carefully to avoid being blocked out by the hazards and trees.

Hole 8

Par 3

  • 170 Yards S.I. 16
  • 153 Yards S.I. 16
  • 151 Yards S.I. 15
  • 151 Yards S.I. 15

Pro Tip

A straightforward par 3. Usually requiring one more club than the yardage suggests.

Hole 9

Par 4

  • 446 Yards S.I. 3
  • 390 Yards S.I. 3
  • 314 Yards S.I. 3
  • 314 Yards S.I. 3

Pro Tip

One of the toughest on the course.

The tee shot has to be carefully positioned, ideally just to the left of the fairway tree, but you will still be left with a long shot to the green.

Hole 10

Par 3

  • 151 Yards S.I. 11
  • 142 Yards S.I. 11
  • 102 Yards S.I. 18
  • 102 Yards S.I. 18

Pro Tip

A short par 3 that requiring good distance control as you are playing downhill, to a shallow green with the river running across the front.

Hole 11

Par 4

  • 428 Yards S.I. 1
  • 421 Yards S.I. 1
  • 347 Yards S.I. 2
  • 347 Yards S.I. 2

Pro Tip

A great golf hole.

A drive to the right hand side of the fairway, which slopes sharply right to left over the hill, will leave you with the shortest shot to the green.

The green has a significant steep run off area behind, so much better to be short rather than long.

Hole 12

Par 4

  • 325 Yards S.I. 18
  • 290 Yards S.I. 18
  • 282 Yards S.I. 14
  • 282 Yards S.I. 14

Pro Tip

A shortish par 4 that tempts the big hitters to try and go for the green.

More modest hitters should pick a line to the right of the two fairway bunkers and anything on the fairway will leave a short iron into a small and well protected by the contours green.

Hole 13

Par 3

  • 201 Yards S.I. 7
  • 165 Yards S.I. 7
  • 151 Yards S.I. 12
  • 151 Yards S.I. 12

Pro Tip

A very pretty par three, over water to a back to front sloping green.

Hole 14

Par 4

  • 348 Yards S.I. 4
  • 322 Yards S.I. 4
  • 271 Yards S.I. 4
  • 271 Yards S.I. 4

Pro Tip

There are two ways of playing this hole.

‘Grip it and rip it’, the further you hit the ball, the wider the landing zone, or take your straightest club and aim 150 yards down the middle, to leave a longer but safe shot into the green.

Note the pin position as this is a tricky two tier green and putting from the wrong level is as scary as the tee shot.

Hole 15

Par 4

  • 421 Yards S.I. 10
  • 366 Yards S.I. 10
  • 353 Yards S.I. 8
  • 353 Yards S.I. 8

Pro Tip

Tough and long, particularly if into the wind.

Note the position of the deep faced fairway bunkers, which will cost you a shot if you don’t avoid them.

A great view into the green from the brow of the hill, usually requiring one more club than the distance suggests.

Hole 16

Par 5

  • 572 Yards S.I. 9
  • 666 Yards S.I. 9
  • 444 Yards S.I. 10
  • 444 Yards S.I. 10

Pro Tip

The signature hole at Hamptworth and the only Par 6 in the country playing at 666 yards.

To score well requires a combination of strength and guile.

The first two shots ideally should get you to the first pair of sentry trees, after which position is paramount to give a clear line of sight to the green.

Reachable in 3 for bigger hitters to set up a birdie, but even shorter hitters have a good chance of a regulation par if they can hold their nerve.

Hole 17

Par 4

  • 300 Yards S.I. 17
  • 244 Yards S.I. 17
  • 240 Yards S.I. 16
  • 240 Yards S.I. 16

Pro Tip

A teasing ‘risk and reward’ par 4.

A big and accurate tee shot may set up a birdie chance, but the safe positional route, avoiding the bunkers should give a solid chance of Par.

Hole 18

Par 5

  • 446 Yards S.I. 8
  • 439 Yards S.I. 8
  • 432 Yards S.I. 6
  • 432 Yards S.I. 6

Pro Tip

good opportunity to enhance your score and finish your round with a smile on this shortish, but challenging par 5.

Sensible play should get you on the green in three, but three accurate well positioned shots will be required.
