Local Rules
Local Rules for Hamptworth Golf Club
Out of Bounds – Rule 18.2
A ball is out of bounds when it is beyond:
- A line between the course–side points at ground level of the white boundary posts or lines.
- Any fence, hedge or ditch defining the boundary of the course.
Penalty Areas – Rule 17
All lakes, ponds, streams, and ditches (whether or not containing water) are penalty areas and penalty relief may be taken under rule 17.1d. Penalty areas not specifically defined by stakes or lines, are treated as red penalty areas, the edges of which are defined by where the ground slopes down to form the depression that holds the water. When both stakes and lines are used, the line defines the margin of the penalty area.
Environmentally Sensitive Areas
Penalty areas defined by blue stakes are No Play Zones and penalty relief MUST be taken. As an extra option on the 14th hole the player may play another ball using the dropping zone provided.
Abnormal Course Conditions
Immovable Obstructions
All artificially surfaced paths are immovable obstructions. Relief may be taken in accordance with Rule 16.1b. There is no relief from immovable obstructions in a penalty area.
Immovable obstructions close to the putting green
In addition to the types of interference described in Rule 16.1a, when a ball lies in the general area, interference also exists if an immovable obstruction is on the player’s line of play, is within two club-lengths of the putting green and is within two club-lengths of the ball. The player may take relief under rule 16.1b.
Ground under repair
Ground under repair is defined by any area encircled by a white line. Relief may be taken in accordance with rule 16.1b.
Ball Deflected by a Powerline
If it is known or virtually certain that a player’s ball hit an overhead cable (specify the hole number) the player MUST replay the shot from the spot where the previous stroke was played without penalty.
If the player replays the stroke, but does so from a wrong place, they get the general penalty under rule 14.7.
If the player does not replay the stroke, they get the general penalty and the stroke counts, but the player has not played from the wrong place.
